Who we are...
We are an independent evangelical church
We do not belong to any particular denomination and so are truly autonomous; however we enjoy good relationships with other Bible based churches in the area. Our own Leadership Team is responsible for the direction and vision of the church.
We are Bible based
We have an orthodox, evangelical view of Scripture, believing its Divine inspiration and infallibility. Our preaching is firmly based on the Bible as we believe its truths are the only basis for Christian growth and maturity.
We celebrate Communion and Believers Baptism
We celebrate communion each week; sometimes in the Morning Service but more often in the Evening Service. We practice Believers Baptism by immersion and acceptance into membership is based on a personal declaration of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and baptism.
We care for our Members
We believe the care of every member of the fellowship, and those who regularly meet with us, is very important. Members are encouraged to be in Small Groups which meet mid-week where care, study, prayer and fellowship are enjoyed.
We are mission focused
We want to reach our community and the wider world with the good news of Jesus Christ. We seek to keep a heart for those without Christ at the centre of all we do. In October 2004 we began a church plant in Sunderland which is now thriving. Currently we have members involved in Street Pastors in Sunderland. We also have a number of our members in fulltime Christian service, in this country and overseas.
We aim for blended worship
We believe the quality of our worship is important and should be inclusive. We use a blend of music which encompasses the best of both old and new songs whilst ensuring the scriptural truthfulness of the words we sing.
We believe in plural leadership
We have a Leadership Team who represent five Ministry Groups responsible for various aspects of church life. The Leadership Team have responsibility, under God, to provide vision and leadership to the church. Empowering individual church members to reach their God given potential and become more devoted disciples of Christ is a major focus for the Leadership Team.
We will not be all things to all men! We will say NO to some good things because it is not where we are in God or because others can do it better than we can.
Full details of the beliefs of the church are set out in the Statement of Faith.
In practice this means: -
Loving God…
We seek to be a community where God is worshipped, honoured and obeyed.
Loving One Another…
We seek to be a centre for preaching and teaching which is both Biblical, bang up to date and which builds up His Church and reaches the “lost world” around us so that people can find faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.
We seek to be a church whose members love one another in actions and words. To develop people’s gifts, and to encourage their personal spiritual growth towards maturity.
Serving our Community…
We seek to build bridges of love and friendship between one another and into our community so that we may share the message of Jesus with as many as possible.
We want to be a focal point in the local community for all age groups where social concern and Christian love in action are displayed as part of our outreach.
