A list of frequently asked questions. If there's anything else you need to know, please drop us an email or give us a call

What sort of Church are you?

Bethany is an independent evangelical church not associated with any particular denomination. We have our ‘roots’ in the Christian Brethren tradition but have grown to be an inclusive family of believers sharing one common bond - Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Where can I park?

The centre’s car park has 90 spaces with additional spaces provided by the Hospital next door. It is important that all cars using the centre are parked correctly and do not obstruct roadways or emergency exits. We do try to have people on duty to direct the traffic and control the parking and would ask that you respect their instructions.

When should I arrive?

Due to parking its best to plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of a service. If you’re coming for one of our ‘special events’ you may want to arrive 30 minutes early to ensure you get a seat!

What should I wear?

Dress comfortably. Some people dress up, but most wear casual and comfortable clothes on Sundays. Other events are always casual. Don't worry about what you wear, as you'll never feel out of place when you come casual.

What can I expect?

Attending church for the first time can be a daunting experience, especially if you don’t know what to expect.
Our service, which is also steamed online via Youtube, begins at 10.30am and will finish around 12 noon. We start with songs that help us connect with God (the words will be on the screen so you can join in if you want to) and after that our speaker, usually our pastor Jason Mayhall, will then share an encouraging, hope-filled yet thought provoking message about Jesus. We then celebrate Communion together and after a final song, we serve refreshments for those who wish to stay. This would be a great opportunity for you to get to know us better and we’d love to have you join us

What about our children?

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the first 10-15 minutes. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. Someone will announce when it’s time for the younger members to go to their various groups.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play.  Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

At Bethany, every child is important to us! Quality preschool and children's Bible teaching programs are available in a safe and secure environment. We take the safety and security of your child very seriously. The church has adopted a "Safeguarding Policy" which provides guidelines and safety procedures for children of all ages. In accordance with this policy, every adult that works with children has completed a criminal records check to ensure the safety of the kids while here at Bethany. If you have questions about this policy please contact our office. We would be happy to answer any and all of your questions.

Will I have to say or do anything?

Not unless you want to! Feel free to sit back, relax and enjoy. Be prepared for people to speak though. When you come to Bethany, expect a genuine smile and a generous “Hello!” There is Love here and opportunities to enjoy authentic relationships. But all that should come at your own pace, no one here is going to rush you into things. You don’t have to put on airs or armour, we won’t pry and we won't embarass you either!
